My only complaint was that I had no good way to clean the stairs. This little RugRat takes care of that concern. Now I've got a mini-beater bar vac that I can fit into all kinds of nook and crannies around the house that were being neglected. It works like a charm on pet hair-covered couches as well. I would highly recommend this product!

They work fine for a while and then just bind up. I keep taking them apart and cleaning the pet hair out of them. Then sometimes they work better for a while; sometimes not. I'm going to try other brands. BTW, I also use the Turbo Cat, the larger carpet cleaning head, and it works well every time.

The airflow that grabs the dirt is also used to spin the brush; it doesn't use electricity. It works well as long as you have good suction (that's the force) and don't press too hard.
The trick is to keep your suction up. You will need a central vac or shop-vac, not a regular canister vac, to drive this. And even with suction, the trick is to get it up to speed and then engage the carpet, lifting whenever it slows. So it's not as good a performer as if a motor were driving the brush. But it is an adequate way to clean stairs.
